Cable extrusion is a manufacturing process in which a continuous length of cable is produced by forcing raw materials (such as polymers, thermoplastics, metals, or composites) through a shaped metal die. This process is generally used to apply insulation, shielding or protective insulation around electrical wires and fibre optic cables. The extruded insulation protects cables from damage and environmental hazards. Insulation materials used are selected based on their performance characteristics and the required operating environment.

Heatsense extrudes and insulates electrical conductors in a wide range of materials and is only one of only two companies in the UK able to both extrude PTFE and also wrap and sinter PTFE.

The process ultimately depends on conductor dimensions and the final application.

This unique extrusion process allows us to produce high-quality PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene) cables. The company manufactures a range of PTFE equipment wires & cables which meet the BS3G210 standard, as well as Single Shot Thermocouple Cables in Figure 8 and Round Styles; all meeting the rigorous requirements of IEC60584-2 Class 1, ASTM E230, and ANSI MC96.1.

What is Cable Extrusion and what protection does it provide?

Cable Extrusion is a specialised manufacturing process that involves the precise extrusion of PTFE material to create cables with exceptional properties. PTFE, known for its excellent temperature resistance, chemical inertness, and electrical insulation, is an ideal material for demanding applications. The ram extrusion process ensures uniformity, precision and consistency in the extrusion of PTFE, resulting in cables with high-performance characteristics. PTFE cables offer superior temperature

What are Single Shot Thermocouple Cables and why are they important?

Single Shot Thermocouple Cables are specialised cables used for temperature measurement and control in extreme environments. These cables are manufactured to strict standards, including IEC60584-2 Class 1, ASTM E230, and ANSI MC96.1, ensuring accurate and reliable temperature readings. We offer this range of cables as Single Shot Thermocouple Cables in Figure 8 and Round styles, meeting the diverse needs of our customers in various industries.

Can PTFE extruded cables withstand harsh chemicals?

Yes, PTFE is highly resistant to a wide range of chemicals, including acids, bases, solvents, and oils, making PTFE extruded cables ideal for applications where chemical resistance is crucial.

Can PTFE extruded cables be customized for specific applications?

Our PTFE Ram Extrusion Line allows for customization of various parameters, such as conductor size, insulation thickness and cable dimensions, to meet your specific application requirements.

Are PTFE extruded cables suitable for high-frequency applications?
